Here’s how our wedding party entered the reception hall. So much fun (and a foreshadow of Mike’s happy feet).

G made her husband a special health elixir smoothie with two tablespoons of bee pollen.
Ten minutes later, my eyes burned, my throat tingled and swelled, hives erupted across my body, and I sneezed and blew my nose as if I had a crazy cold.

When my right peeper swelled up like a boxer’s, we googled “bee pollen allergic reaction,” freaked, and ran to the hospital.

They gave me a shot and some drugs and I started feeling better.

With a little luck, I’ll be normal again tomorrow - just in time for a huge presentation in St. Louis!
In the future, I think I’ll stick with plain old honey ![]()

Finally! Some video to share from our wedding.
Our crew did interviews with guests during cocktails, and I’m slicing it all up by question. This first installment features folks’ advice for our first year of marriage. Woo-hoo!

We planned to spend three days in Cusco but ended up staying six. It’s a beautiful, ancient city perched on a high mountain plateau.
We took in most of the key sites outside of Cusco too in an area known as the Sacred Valley.
The weather was crisp and true blue, the food sophisticated and delicious, and the people we met seemed prosperous and friendly.
Cusco was one of our favorite spots in Peru. We both agreed that we could live there quite happily.

From Lima we flew to Puerto Maldonado, jumping off point for Manu National Park in the Amazon River basin.
We stayed at the Inka Terra lodge on a river called Madre de Dios, or Mother of God. It was crazy hot during the day (99° F) and cool and clammy at night. The lodge was pretty posh for the jungle, but the noise was out of hand. Day and night, the thrum of screeching birds and insects was louder than Chicago at rush hour.
We spent four days hiking, canoeing, and lounging in the heat. We saw monkeys, which was a highlight, as was Inka Terra’s “canopy walk” - 400 yards of bridges and walkways strung 100 feet above the jungle floor. The idea was to observe jungle flora and fauna at canopy-level, but mostly we just hung on for dear life.
Exciting stuff, especially in hindsight.

Lima is covered in a cool, clammy coastal fog called the garúa for half the year — who woulda thought? But we were in post-wedding relaxation mode, so the weather didn’t matter. We slept for 10 hours each night, saw Die Hard 4 in a theater, got Papa John’s pizza delivered to our room, and watched Brewster’s Millions on the tube.
We did manage to explore a bit of this sprawling city of 8 million and bought some sweet souveniers. But mostly we’ll remember our room at Hotel Ariosto.
